India has overtaken China as the world's most populous country, and it's pushing for foreign investments. But foreign investors keen to enter the Indian market face various barriers to entry. Earlier this year, India overtook China as the world's most populous country. Among investors keen on investing in India are Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, and tech giant Apple. But given the huge Indian market, Tesla isn't giving up.

The cult of Emily Oster

Emily Oster is sitting in the back of a car, checking her Garmin watch as we lurch through rush-hour traffic toward the Holland Tunnel. A self-described expert in data, Oster uses her economics training to dig into studies on things like circumcision and screen time and translate them for popular consumption. There doesn't seem to be much of a gap between the way Oster presents herself in her books and newsletters and the way she conducts her life. Unsurprisingly, economics informs every aspect of the way Oster sees the world. When Oster was a toddler, her mother told a Yale colleague that Oster often talked to herself before falling asleep.

Legendary emerging markets investor Mark Mobius is bullish on India. He told Bloomberg that India — whose GDP growth hit 7.2% in the last year — is the "real future." "To me, India is the real future," Mobius, the cofounder of Mobius Capital Partners, told Bloomberg on Tuesday. Mobius told the news outlet he wasn't put off by a short-seller report targeting the Adani conglomerate earlier this year. "I was at the Expo in Dubai and one of the boy bands was entertaining and it's an Arab audience and they all knew the words," Mobius told Bloomberg.

A house that juts out over Malibu's coveted beach hit the market for the first time in 36 years. Rod Stewart bought it in the 1970s and sold it to record executive Mo Ostin in 1987. The house was designed to look like a set of cresting waves by California architect Harry Gesner. The Coopers were friends with California architect Harry Gesner, and commissioned Gesner to design a house for their family that encapsulated their affinity for the outdoors. The estate of Mo Ostin, the home's most recent owner and onetime record executive who's known for signing Jimi Hendrix and The Kinks, listed the property in early June for $49.5 million.

Why Tesla cars get totaled so easily
  + stars: | 2023-06-05 | by ( Graham Rapier | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +3 min
Tesla's cars are tremendously complex, with a multitude of sensors and custom body parts. Insurers are increasingly declaring Tesla cars totaled in an accident instead of paying for a fix. To make matters even more complicated, Tesla's new "structural" battery packs — those that are integrated with the car's body — have "zero repairability," according to manufacturing expert Sandy Munro. Tesla is acutely aware of the high insurance costs of its vehicles, with CEO Elon Musk in January saying they were "unreasonably high." Tesla has also been working to offer its own insurance products in some states, including California, with premium prices based on driving data from cars' onboard sensors.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke out in support of the now-ousted Tucker Carlson. He cited Carlson leaving Fox News as an example of poor press standards in the US. "I heard that Tucker Carlson has left Fox News. Lavrov's comments about Carlson were brief, but he isn't alone in the Kremlin's praise for the right-wing TV figure. Fox News announced that it parted ways with Tucker Carlson on Monday without specifying why the host was ousted.
More than 1,000 people, including Elon Musk, recently signed a letter calling for a pause on AI development. Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth said: "Not only is it unrealistic, I don't think it would be effective." "I think it's very important to invest in responsible development," Bosworth told the outlet, "and we do that kind of investment all the time. And so I think, not only is it unrealistic, I don't think it would be effective." "Shutting down AI development for six months gives the bad guys six more months to catch up," he said.
Instead, she patterns her money strategy after Warren Buffett. "I'm not necessarily playing the market on a daily basis, but I come from a Warren Buffett strategy. Instead, buy stock if you believe in the company, and don't be afraid to buy more when the price falls or sell when it's high. The best part about the tactic: It alleviates some of the pressure of trying to predict the stock market, Buffett noted. "Buy stock in several companies that make products [and] services that you believe in.
But what's gone almost unnoticed in the midst of the tech bloodletting is that consolidation is coming for venture investors, too. "Anyone who wanted to raise a fund could," said Nichole Wischoff, a solo venture capitalist. In essence, the great venture-capital resignation has become the great uncertainty. Family offices and institutions that front money to venture funds are being inundated with pitches, multiple sources said. "There's not going to be a rush by the big mega-platforms to hire them," said the principal at the early-stage venture firm.

But perhaps the most eye-catching element of the project, which opened last November, is the 23,000 square feet of super high-definition LED screens at street level that it's calling the "world's largest digital canvas." The immense, immersive 360-degree screens display "experiential advertising" from companies including Burberry, Amazon, Netflix, BMW, EA Games, and Chanel – as well as contemporary digital art exhibitions. Take a look at Outernet and its immersive digital artworks.
Elon Musk could face activist investors as Tesla's stock falls, an ex-Facebook exec warns. Activist investors buy up big stakes in public companies and then agitate for change — sometimes in the board room. Stamos was previously Chief Security Officer at Facebook and he was also previously Chief Information Security Officer at Yahoo. Last week, some Tesla investors expressed concern that Twitter had become too much of a distraction for the carmaker's CEO. Tesla's stock was trading a little over $150 a share late Friday.
Florida's first lady, Casey DeSantis, is a close confidant to her powerful husband, several people told Insider. He added, "We would not see Ron DeSantis outside of press conferences if he did not have a wife and kids." Ron DeSantis began clawing his way into the national spotlight in 2017 as a member of the US House of Representatives. She smiled wryly and said: "Everyone knows my husband, Ron DeSantis, is endorsed by President Trump, but he's also an amazing dad. "Ron DeSantis would be a very good candidate for the St. Johns county commission if he did not have Casey DeSantis in his life," Schorsch said.
Twitch's September announcement that it will cut creators' revenue share spawned heated backlash. "There's, yes, angst and there's a lot of noise about [revenue share] right now," said Scott. "You take the streamer rev share and you add on the Prime earning," Minton said. "It's not an easy concept to understand, but in totality, we're effectively paying a 65% rev share, if you include Prime." "The rev share split change will only make a small dent in their journey to boost profitability.
One former Apollo executive couldn't wrap his mind around how the firm got investors onboard with Harris' personal activities. One advisor to Harris' family office said there would be an internal conversation every year to ensure the proper expense allocations. Several former Apollo employees, however, said other Apollo executives were concerned about Harris' use of firm resources. Few if any sources Insider spoke with expected much to change in how private-equity executives managed their personal investments. The lawyer said that the documents often state that a firm's executives will dedicate "as much time as reasonably necessary" to managing their investments.
James Barnes, who's known as "The Trans Coach," trains employers on creating an inclusive workplace. Insider spoke with Barnes about the importance of addressing these issues, his training techniques, and how entrepreneurs can build an inclusive workplace. Once a robust healthcare plan is established, companies should create clear resource pages for employees to fully understand their options. But if a small business lacks the financial resources to provide healthcare plans, founders should still create transition-related support policies. Dan BakerInvest in inclusion year-roundIt's important that companies invest in inclusive policies for LGBTQ and other marginalized employees year-round, he said.
